Fighting Hunger with Foodbank and 5100 bottles of canola oil

This Christmas, we wanted to support the community.

So, we partnered with our exclusive distributor Sherman Foods and made a bulk donation of canola oil to Foodbank Victoria.

In total, we donated 5,100 bottles of our fine quality Australian canola oil. This amounted to nine pallets, or five metric tonnes!

Finding ways to make a difference in our local community has always been important to us. Our community initiatives often include educational scholarships, event sponsorship and fundraising.

This year, the decision to support Foodbank was made to help with the cost-of-living crisis over Christmas.

Foodbank is the pantry to the charity sector in Australia, helping frontline charities provide vulnerable people with access to food. It is Australia’s largest food relief organisation.

Foodbank Victoria Operations Manager Edi Banovac said the canola oil was already in Foodbank’s pick locations and would be distributed before Christmas.

“The donation has been incorporated into our core distribution inventory where over 500 charity partners across Victoria can self-select through the Foodbank portal,” Edi said.

“Cooking oils are such a vital part of healthy eating, but not accessible to people who are struggling to afford even basic pantry staples.

“This donation will ensure that Foodbank Victoria can offer this staple of a healthy food basket to all of our charities, ensuring more families and individuals across the state don’t miss out on the nutrition they need."

Edi explained that by receiving donations of important pantry staples, Foodbank and the frontline charities could reorganise their food spend and channel funds towards other products like fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh milk, and protein.
